Safe Classroom Policy

The following limits apply to all public postings in our virtual classroom as well as to private postings to individuals in our class.

Messages that are disrespectful, rude, impolite, combative, or unfriendly will not be tolerated. For this reason, any messages that, in the instructor's judgment, could be interpreted as unfriendly, disrespectful, rude, or impolite will be immediately deleted in order to preserve the emotionally safe, polite, and friendly atmosphere of the classroom. Anyone who posts such a message will be warned one time. If the behavior continues, such messages will continue to be deleted from the classroom, and more severe measures may be taken (per Community College Policy), to include disciplinary warnings, disciplinary probation, disenrollment from the class, and, potentially, expulsion from the college.

Any messages that, in the instructor's judgment, contain any sexually inappropriate material or any racially insensitive remarks will also be immediately deleted in order to preserve the emotional safety of the classroom. Anyone who posts such a message will be warned one time. If the behavior continues, such messages will continue to be deleted from the classroom, and more severe measures may be taken, to include disciplinary warnings, disciplinary probation, disenrollment from the class, and, potentially, expulsion from the college.

Furthermore, everyone has the right to not respond to posts, whether sent publicly to the classroom or privately to a mailbox, that they consider to be unfriendly, combative, disrespectful, demanding, impolite, or sexually or racially inappropriate.

If anyone in class sends inappropriate or unpleasant posts to your private email box, please notify your instructor immediately so that the matter can be dealt with directly. You have every right to not respond to such posts.

We should all be aware that all email messages (including those posted to the classroom and those posted privately) are essentially public communications. Not many people other than our own class will probably actually read them, but other people theoretically could read them. You may want to keep this in mind whenever you send email messages to anyone.
